Hey friend! If you want to get better sounding audio from your camera, this video is for you!
Many people never switch off “auto-mode” for their camera’s audio. If that’s you, it’s preventing you from getting the best audio from your camera.
Auto-mode uses a tool called a compressor, which turns down the loud parts and turns up the quiet parts. But it usually “squashes” your audio too much and makes it sound bad (or not as good as it could be). And it often increases that annoying hissing sound in the background.
The solution? Switch to manual mode and manually set your input volume! You can set it lower so that you reduce that ugly background hiss, and ensure the volume isn’t so high that it peaks and causes distortion.
Then when you edit your video, just turn up the volume! This will give you a better raw audio sound vs. letting the camera control the input volume (again, adding that undesirable hissing sound and overcompressing your voice).
